ASICS Sportstyle is advancing to a new age with British vocalist and lyricist Griff, joining forces to present the innovative GEL-CUMULUS 16. This collaboration combines the realms of music, motion, and individual style into one exceptionally stylish athletic shoe.
Clad in a monochromatic color scheme, this model is highlighted by a distinctive ribbon lacing system, derived from ballet, that bestows a gentle yet potent vibe to the performance-oriented design. The concept delves into the correlation between movement and self-expression, also tipping a nod to ASICS’ foundational principle, “Anima Sana in Corpore Sano,” signifying a robust mind in a robust body.
This athletic shoe also mirrors Griff’s personal style inclinations. Drawing inspiration from her penchant for wearing socks with loafers, the design incorporates a layered aesthetic that harmonizes the gentleness with firmness. “I aspired for the shoe to serve as an extension of my everyday style,” said Griff. “I aimed to make it playful and graceful, but also cozy and versatile enough to complement my activities, whether I’m working on music in the studio or performing on stage or simply going about my day-to-day activities.”
Conceived over a period of 18 months, the GEL-CUMULUS 16 crafted by Griff commemorates feminine vitality, camaraderie, and the tempo of urban existence. To herald the debut, ASICS will orchestrate an experiential pop-up event in Hackney, London, masterminded by Kat Milne, from June 12 to 14.
The athletic shoe will be accessible for purchase from June 12 on the ASICS web platform and at select retail outlets.
