As soon as we noticed Sadi Studios’ croc-textured Nemo wedges on our Instagram Explore page, it was clear that this brand was something extraordinary. Launched by Sarah Ahn-Ianni in Los Angeles in 2022, Sadi Studios has quickly amassed a remarkable following worldwide, largely due to its bold designs and inclusive sizing options, tailored to meet the needs of drag queens and transgender women.
Drawing inspiration from the trends that Ianni admired but couldn’t afford during her younger years, the brand has become renowned for its distinctive square toes and thick wedges. Since its launch, Sadi Studios has been donned by celebrities like Jennie, KATSEYE, and Megan Thee Stallion, in case you weren’t already impressed…
As Sadi readies for the debut of its latest style later this year, we connected with Ianni to gain insight into her creative process, current lineup, and aspirations for what’s to come.

Tell us a bit about the decision to start Sadi Studios. What was the starting point for you?
I always knew I wanted to create my own brand—shoes that my friends and I would really want to wear. That was always the starting point and the guideline for everything we do.
Where does your inspiration come from?
Mostly from observing people. I’m constantly watching the most captivating, well-dressed individuals—whether it’s on the street, in a movie, an anime, or while I’m traveling. Certain moments when someone’s style truly resonates with you. I also draw a lot from nostalgia; styles from the past or trends I was fixated on growing up but couldn’t afford at the time. In many ways, I feel like I design for my teenage or early-adult self.
For example, the CHOO was inspired by the Manolo x Timberlands. I coveted a pair desperately when I was younger and always knew I wanted to design a contemporary version of that sensation, but executed in a distinctive Sadi way.
What can you tell us about your creative process? How often do you design and release new styles?
Right now I’m focusing on smaller release drops—approximately two to four a year. Sometimes it begins with a void in my own closet, a style I’ve been eager to wear but can’t find anywhere. Other times, it’s the opposite: I’m sourcing materials, I become completely enamored with a fabric or swatch, and I end up designing around that instead.
I also design spontaneously. Ideas arrive when they will, and the journey from concept to final prototype can span months. Honestly, not many designs are selected, and I’m okay with that. I’d rather release fewer products that my community truly loves than overproduce just for the sake of novelty.
What’s been your favorite design that you’ve created so far, and why?
My absolute favorite is actually still forthcoming—an innovative shape I’ve been discreetly developing for FW26, set to release later this year. Don’t want to spoil the surprise, but here’s a hint, it’s a reimagined moto boot with a Sadi twist.
But from what’s currently available? One of our top-sellers, the HAN boots, without a doubt. I’ve always been a boot enthusiast, and that asymmetrical toe against the square mini-platform feels like a true Sadi signature to me. Plus (and I say this as someone who’s worn a lot of high heels), they are genuinely very comfortable. People are always genuinely surprised by that, considering the height of the heel!
Inclusive design and extended sizes are key components of the Sadi Studios range—why is that significant to you?
I wanted my friends and I to feel seen and to have the liberty to truly wear what we desire, rather than being confined by what the industry deems “standard.” Footwear has been so far behind clothing in this regard, and it’s always been frustrating. I was also tired of witnessing the most stunning tall women and drag queens teetering on heels that were two sizes too small. It’s 2026—there’s no reason that should still be happening!
As an independent label, how do you manage the evolving landscape of AI campaigns, fast fashion copies, and TikTok trends?
You sort of don’t. You stick to your vision, remain calm, and carry on. As a small brand, you simply have to trust that there’s a rationale for your existence and that what you’re cultivating has its own niche.
Finally, what’s next for the brand?
Broadening our size range even further and venturing into new categories is the practical response. However, what genuinely excites me is the ongoing development of our Sadi community. Crafting a space where individuals can visit, connect, and purchase in a manner that feels authentic. Less commercial, more like you’ve discovered your tribe.
I strive to take it one day at a time, because in 2022, my dream was simply witnessing people donning my designs. Now that we’ve reached this point, and Sadi has received so much love, I’m incredibly grateful.
